History & Location

About Specs was established by the owners Mary and Rod in 2007 in the Orion Springfield Town Centre.

Mary and Rod had a vision in creating their own business which they named About Specs. The practice caters for families, children and the elderly. We provide a number of fashion frames to suit all budgets, contact lenses, magnifiers and low vision aids.

About Specs is ideally located at Orion Springfield Town centre offering plenty of parking (including undercover).

Our Staff

Mary Optometrist

Mary graduated in Brisbane from QUT with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Optometry) in 1986. Mary has worked at a number of Optometrists, at the Princess Alexandra and Mater hospitals, QUT and a few Ophthalmologists. Mary has also completed a Bachelor of Business (Management).

Mary enjoys working with families and since having her own children has taken a special interest in testing children. Mary also enjoys seeing people who wear contact lenses. Mary has previously worked in a low vision clinic and can provide magnifiers and services for patients with low vision.

Vanessa Optometrist

Vanessa is a therapeutically qualified optometrist. She enjoys working with families and has a special interest in ocular pathology. Vanessa has 12 years experience and has practiced in several countries including South Africa, UK, Netherlands, New Zealand and Australia.

Outside of work Vanessa is a wife and a mum to two little girls which keep her pretty busy. Vanessa is passionate about optometry and continues diligently with her professional development.

Rod & Harry Optical Mechanics / Dispensers

Rod and Harry are both qualified optical mechanics and optical dispensers with a combined experience totaling 75 years in the optical industry.

They both have considerable experience in retail, having worked in optical laboratories and in management.

They enjoy helping find the best frames and lenses to suit each patient's lifestyle and budget.
